The Ugliest Car

When I was a kid, I liked to draw. I couldn't draw very well, but I drew a lot anyway, and when I drew a vehicle it inevitably looked something like this:

A Child's Drawing of a Car

Compare this with the latest Sports Utility Gas Guzzler, the Scion xB:

The Scion xB, Apparently Designed by the Same Child

The good news is, it is easy for a three year old to draw it. The bad news is, it looks like a cardboard box. I believe we have a winner for 2004 Ugliest Car of the Year, knocking the Chevy Avalanche and Honda Element out of the top spot from 2003.

The only thing missing from the photo is the smiling face in the driver's seat. Which is appropriate because I sure wouldn't be smiling if I were forced to drive that atrocity.

Prof. Stump just bought one.

Since I was actually looking at buying one of these, I want to clear something up. It isn't an SUV. It is a car. It is actually just a Toyota Echo with a different body and some different features. And a small engine that is reasonably fuel efficient.

I agree that you can't necessarily call something such as this to be a "sport utility" vehicle, because it's way tinier than your Avalanche or Element. It's supposed to be a cross between an SUV and a car.

Have you seen the Dodge Magnum? It's every station wagon mom's dream!

So in effect it's a weak-engined car that tries to look like a cross between a van and an SUV? At least real SUV's (sometimes) have powerful (but fuel-inefficient) engines. There's no excuse for this thing. It's ugly *and* it can't even tow a ship through solid ice. For shame.

How in the world do they take a Toyota Echo and make it into an xB? That's like taking a Ford Festiva and turning into a filing cabinet.
