The Chris R. Hill Festival
I've discovered that there's another one of me at work, and it's causing sitcom-esque mixups. My doppelganger doesn't work at world headquarters with me, but he's right above me in the email directory. So to differentiate between us, he is "Chris Hill" while I am "Chris R. Hill". Unfortunately, when people hear my name at a meeting, they only hear the "Chris" and the "Hill", so when they go to email me something afterwards, they often send it to my inexact double.
For awhile, he was on the email distribution list for my team instead of me, and today he almost got the brand new white board for his cubicle that I ordered for myself. So I've started introducing myself as "Chris R. Hill", even going as far as to use that name on my voice mail.
I think this is a sign that I should finally take the plunge and change my name to Aloysius Spectacular.

The grad student formerly known as Chris Hill.
What's the "R" for? maybe it could become your new first name? Or how about just using the R ? I know a guy who is E Lewis.

Or, better yet, you could be like Madonna or Cher and only use your first name. Ooh, or use a weird combination of your first and last names ala JLo, only in your case it could be...chill or chrill or chi - something ridiculous. Or be like JFK, LBJ, and FDR and go by your initials. And then there are titles, like POTUS or "The Admiral." Or a foreign equivalent of Chris, like Christof.
Ok, so maybe those ideas aren't so good.

What's your father's name? First name only, por favor.

Robert, the same as my middle name. So I could be "Bob", but there are probably a few of those at work also...

What about "The Festival formally known as Chris Hill"?

I don't know if that would fit on my name badge. Although I could just consolidate it into a meaningless symbol of some sort.

How about C. Robert Hill?

Actually, I was thinking along the lines of Christoff Robovich Hillchev. You could talk with a thick, fake accent, and demand that people who don't know you super-well call you by your first and middle names combined.
It would also give you an excuse to distill potato mash at your desk, and claim it as being true to your culture.

Somehow, running a distillery at my desk doesn't seem like a good idea. Maybe when I get a few years experience under my belt.
